Elizabeth’s Volunteering Story
I’ve been volunteering as a counsellor with TCA Angus office since early summer 2021. I have a background in the advice sector (client facing) and counselling has been, and continues to be, an interesting and thoroughly enjoyable experience.
To me, TCA fills a valuable gap in the counselling scene as few employers are interested in ‘trainee’ counsellors and, at a time when I was looking for counselling experience, TCA made me an offer I couldn’t refuse! I’ve gained clients, supervision and a qualification. The knowledge, acceptance and tips I learn through experience, discussion and reflection transfer with me to add value in the workplace as well as in my personal life sustaining my resilience and wellbeing. It’s been amazing to work alongside the Angus team. They’ve been wholly supportive of my ups and downs learning to be a counsellor, my health and full-time employment. We’ve had conversations with laughter, tears (mine) and useful information to develop me as a counsellor to provide best support I can to our clients. Every client I counsel, I’m honoured and privileged to share part of their life journey and experiences with them.
Volunteering with TCA is, without doubt, one of the highlights of my week.

Volunteering at TCA is for me very fulfilling & rewarding.
My lived experience is invaluable for me to help & understand the young person I support. To develop a connection & build trust allowing the young person to be seen, heard and valued is so important & worthwhile, plus we have lots of fun doing different activities together. I have a passion for helping others in need & being able to put my experience to good use makes it all worthwhile & to see that I’m making a difference uplifts me. TCA have fully supported me throughout & the regular supervision definitely helps. I know Georgia is available anytime to help & guide me, when needed.

Youth Mentoring
Join our Youth Mentoring service to make a difference in a young person’s life! An early intervention programme that supports people aged 8 to 19 who have been affected by someone else’s substance use, or who are at risk of engaging in offending behaviour, our Youth Mentoring Service are currently looking for volunteers. Make a lasting impact to a young person’s life and gain essential mentoring skills through our comprehensive training programme and ongoing support. If you are looking for a new opportunity and would like to empower the next generation, we would love to hear from you!

Youth Groups
Could you support the delivery of youth groups across Tayside?
TCA’s Youth Groups offer valuable volunteer opportunities for individuals to get involved. As a Group Co-Facilitator, your primary responsibilities would include session planning and engaging with young people.
Gain valuable skills in leadership and communication while making a positive difference to the lives of young people across Tayside. If you’re passionate about supporting youth, helping to create positive environments, and making change in the community, this volunteer role could be an ideal opportunity for you!

Admin
Come along and try out admin volunteering! Whether you have no experience or a wealth of experience, we look forward to having you in the office. Main tasks include telephone/reception duties and some general admin. Full training would be provided and ongoing support/training is always available. If you would like to gain valuable admin skills in a friendly and busy office environment, apply to become an admin volunteer with TCA!

Intandem Family Mentoring
Intandem mentors support young people (aged 7-15) living in kinship care in Dundee. You’ll be trained and matched up with a young person who you’ll meet with weekly for around a year and spend time getting to know each other and building a trusting relationship. You can try out new activities together, visit new places, and support your mentor to set goals.
