Fancy cycling over a munro? That’s what pupils at Pitlochry High school did on Friday 8 May! TCA staff Matt Allen and Kathryn Baker took part in the Perth & Kinross Council Active Schools ‘Mini Etape’ event alongside colleagues and the pupils from the school.
This great event, organised by Active Schools co-ordinator Karen Todd, encourages pupils from all year groups to get out on their bikes into the fresh highland air and cycle a section of the Etape Caledonia.
Matt and Kathryn cycled with the group that rode from Kinloch Rannoch all the way back to the high school taking in the climb up and over Schiehallion. It was a demanding challenge and everyone had to dig deep physically and mentally to get through. It was made tougher for some riders thanks to the fat knobbly tires on some of the bikes!
This was a great experience for the young people and an opportunity for them to listen to and be advised by experienced cyclists about cycling safely together on roads. All the finishers got an Active Schools T-shirt and a medal as a reward for their efforts.
Whilst most of us went home very tired after all the exertion some of the S3 boys were heading off to play a cup semi-final football match in Scone! Oh to have that much energy! Hope your legs weren’t too rubbery after all the cycling and you’re now in the final.
