Adult Services

TCA is an independent agency, who has offered counselling and support across Tayside for over 40 years. If you’re worried about your own alcohol use or perhaps you’re worried about someone you care about, and you need to talk to someone , TCA can help. We offer a range of support services from telephone counselling to group work. Our services are confidential, free and available to anyone in the Tayside region.

Adult Support Groups

Throughout Tayside TCA provide many and varied opportunities to get involved in group support and therapy. For some people this approach is preferable to one to one work. The sharing of experiences can be useful in allowing people to learn that they are not alone in their difficulties. The groups are not just about talking and supporting. Activities form a large part of what happens at each meeting. These range from baking, having guest speakers to an art and craft session.

One to One Counselling

People experience many different problems related to their own or another person’s drinking. We work with you to try to find the best way for you to try to sort things out in your life and get where you want to be. We can explore whether you want to make changes to your pattern of use or whether you want to stop drinking altogether. We can discuss strategies that you can use and look at how to cope.

Counselling takes place privately with a fully trained counsellor. It is not conducted in a group setting. Each session lasts up to one hour and are usually weekly. You will decide with your counsellor the focus of the sessions. Whether you want to continue or stop the counselling will be your choice.

Women Only Mentoring

This service offers a mentoring input to women involved with the youth justice or criminal justice systems. The aim is to support these women to comply with the community based disposals they have been sentences to, thus reducing the risk of them being remanded or sentenced to custody as a result of breaching their orders.

Art Therapy

At some point in our lives, we may find ourselves overwhelmed by our emotions; these may be difficult to face either by ourselves or with others. Art therapy offers an opportunity to explore these often intense or painful thoughts and feelings in a supportive environment using creative arts and crafts..
