My experience as a Peer Worker at TCA: Dawn’s story

“Since starting my role, I have been involved mostly in group work alongside Paul from Cair Scotland. This includes the SMART recovery group at Montrose, the Well Bean café in Montrose and F.A.I.R Forfar and Angus in Recovery group. At the moment I am planning my first trip for the Well Bean Café to the Montrose Basin. Some members of the FAIR group from Forfar will be joining us.”
“Also along with my colleague Steven we had an information stall at Angus College on freshers day, we were well received and had an enjoyable day. I am starting to realise things don’t ever run smoothly, and I am getting used to appointments not always going to plan. Thankfully my colleagues in the office have a great listening ear and good advice.”

“Our team building day was fab and it was great to interact with all staff. We are due to start our SVQ with Dundee and Angus college, so it is all go. A year is a relatively short time, but while I have this opportunity I would like to learn as much as possible. This is my chosen career path and hopefully in two years I will have furthered my education enough to have a full time job in Peer Mentoring and also being able to have a, supporting role within group work.”
